Support is being offered to youngsters in Lochaber after three teenage boys were killed in a one-vehicle crash in the West Highlands.

Fergus Ward, Lewis Knox and Jordan Cameron were confirmed dead at the scene of the crash on the A830 between Mallaig and Arisaig at around 11.15pm on Thursday.

The group, all in their late teens, attended Lochaber High School in Fort William, where staff and pupils have been left “deeply saddened”.

A statement shared on the school’s social media said: “We are deeply saddened by the recent tragedy in our community. Our hearts and thoughts are with everyone affected at this very difficult time.

“In times of sadness, the strength of our community shines through the compassion and kindness we show each other. Please know that we are here for you and your children.”

A minute’s silence was held at Fort William Shinty Club on Saturday, as the players marked the loss of Fergus and Lewism, who were both regular first-team members at the club.

‘We’ll pull together’

Caol and Mallaig councillor John Grafton said the community will pull together and support services will be provided for pupils and parents at Lochaber High from Monday.

“We are a very tight community”, he said. “I think times like this, the community spirit just shines through.

“We’ll pull together and do what is needed.

“For the people grieving, it’s going to take years, if ever, and the support throughout those years will be provided.
