A suspect accused of murdering a young man sleeping in his bed will now stand trial in 2028.
Dominiks Andrejevs allegedly killed Ben Campbell at a house in Fort William, where the 25-year-old was staying, on November 7, 2024.
Prosecutors claim Andrejevs, 21, entered the insecure property and went into the bedroom where Mr Campbell was.
The indictment states he was asleep at the time.
Andrejevs then allegedly struck Mr Campbell on the head with a knife and repeatedly stabbed him on the body with the blade.
Among the separate charges that Andrejevs also faces are that he sent threatening and abusive messages via social media to another man in August 2024.
He is further accused of assault weeks earlier in the Highland town by attempting to strike a person with a knife.
Andrejevs had been due to stand trial this week at the High Court in Glasgow. He denies the allegations.
But, it emerged that a legal matter meant the case could not go ahead.
Lady Hood instead set a new trial date of early 2028, with it now set to take place in Edinburgh.
A statement from Mr Campbell’s family at the time of his death read: “He was a much-loved brother, son and friend. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.”
