Three Guinea pigs were found abandoned in a bag on a street corner in Shetland.
The animals were discovered in a bag lined with hay at the bottom and it is believed they have been abandoned by a previous owner.
They were found in Lerwick on the corner of King Haakon Street and King Harald Street at around 10am on Saturday.
Animal welfare charity the Scottish SPCA have taken the animals into care at one of their rescue shelters and have urged anyone with information on the animals to help their investigations.
The Guinea pigs are all long-haired and mainly white with some brown and black patches.
Scottish SPCA auxiliary inspector, Deborah Caithness, said: “The bag they were found in is a large, black shoulder bag, which had hay in the bottom.
“We understand that people’s circumstances can change, but this is not the right way to give up an animal if you can no longer care for them.
“These Guinea pigs are now at one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres where they will receive the care they need.
