A teenage boy has died in a crash that has also left a 15-year-old girl fighting for her life and two others in hospital.
The 16-year-old died at the scene of the crash that took place on Struie Road, near Alness in the Highlands, at around 9.30pm on Saturday.
Police say the blue Audi RS4 they were travelling in appears to have lost control and hit a wall at the junction of Fyrish Substation.
Emergency services attended and the girl was taken to hospital, where medical staff describe her condition as critical, along with a 39-year-old man and 22-year-old woman.
The 22-year-old was released soon after and the man, who was driving the car, remains in hospital.
A police investigation is now underway to establish the full circumstances of the incident and the road was closed for several hours as collision investigators examined the scene.
Sergeant David Miller said: “We are appealing to any other road users who were in the area around the time of the incident to contact us, did you see blue Audi, did you pass it on the road?
“Any small piece of information could be vital in our enquiries. In particular, we would ask motorists with dash cams to check their footage as they could have captured an image which could assist us.
“Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101.”
