A teenager has died after a three-vehicle crash on a major road in the Highlands.

The cars were involved in a collision on the A9, at the junction of the B9161 to Munlochy, around 6.55pm on Friday.

A 16-year-old boy, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, where he died because of his injuries.

Police have launched an investigation and have appealed for witnesses of the crash to come forward.

The incident involved a white Nissan Juke, a red Vauxhall Corsa and a blue Volkswagen Polo.

Sergeant Angus Murray said: “We are supporting the young man’s family at this time and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash.

“I would encourage anyone who may have seen what happened to contact us.

“I would also ask if there are drivers with dash-cam footage which might help with our investigation to call us."
