A man who died after getting into difficulty while swimming in a loch on the Isle of Lewis has been named by police

The body of Stephen Slavin, 37, from Ayrshire, was recovered on Sunday after a major rescue operation was launched at Loch Caitiosbhal.

Sergeant David MacKinnon from Stornoway Police Office said: “Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding Stephen’s death, which is not being treated as suspicious, are ongoing and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

“Our thoughts remain with Stephen’s family at this very difficult time.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland said officers received a report of a man in difficulty in the water near Marvig on the Isle of Lewis at around 11.15am on August 16.

Mr Slavin was recovered from the water and pronounced dead at the scene, the spokesman added.
