A walker who became stuck after sliding 50 metres in snow on a Highlands mountain had to be rescued by helicopter.

Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team was called to reports of a climber having become crag-fast at Beinn Ime, the highest mountain in the region, on the afternoon of Saturday, March 2.

Rescuers climbed the mountain in the southern Highlands reaching a position 200m away from the stricken walker.

Volunteers made the decision to request air evacuation after a second member of the walking party reported getting into difficulty in the snow.

Emergency services including Police Scotland and Coastguard rescue teams joined volunteers in aiding the call-out.

A post on Arrochar MRT’s Facebook read: “Both individuals were safely uplifted and returned to the foot of the mountain.

“Thanks to Police Scotland and Rescue 199 for their assistance in bringing this call-out to a successful conclusion.”

Scottish Mountain Rescue added: “Remember to ‘Think Winter’ if you are heading to the hills.

“Crampons and ice axes are essential for moving safely on steep icy ground.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
