Filling stations in Uist have run out of petrol after bad weather stopped routine fuel deliveries.

A ship carrying supplies was unable to dock on South Uist last week, and strong winds cancelled the inter-island ferries.

Certas Energy, which supplies fuel to the islands, says it has arranged an additional delivery for Tuesday.

A spokesperson said: “Poor weather prevented our tanker from being able to discharge at Loch Carnan, and strong winds have also led to cancelled inter-island ferries and delays to fuel deliveries to Uist.

“We have arranged for an additional delivery of fuel to arrive in Uist today, working with our partners and suppliers to restore full operations as quickly as possible.”

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar said the council’s care at home service has temporarily amended staffing schedules in Uist due to the fuel shortage.
