A photographer captured this image of the Milky Way above the iconic Harry Potter viaduct.

Sylvan Buckley, 46, pictured the moment the core was seen through the clear night sky above the Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous by the wizard films.

The snapper, from Saltcoats, North Ayrshire, decided to stop off at the viaduct on the way home from a trip and was amazed to get the “bucket list” shot.

Sylvan said he would normally use a star tracker to pinpoint the Milky Way but ideal weather conditions meant he was able to see the core perfectly with the naked eye.

He took the long exposure shot on September 1 just before midnight.

Sylvan said: “I was returning home from a trip in the Highlands and decided to stop off at Glenfinnan and try and capture a Milky Way photo over the Glenfinnan viaduct .

“It was a shot that was always on my bucket list to try and capture.

“Since the sky was really clear I took the chance and walked the mile or so up onto the side of the glen to the north of the viaduct to get the shot.

“The sky is really clear and dark up in this part of Scotland and I could see so much detail in the milky way core with the naked eye.

“Normally I would use an app to show me exactly where the milky way core will be at any given time but this particular night all I had to do was find a vantage point and get set up.

“It felt great managing to tick off one of my shots I’ve wanted for a while.”
