A coastal road on the Isle of Skye has reopened following a landslide last week.

A section of the A855 at the Idrigill bend near Uig on the Trotternish Peninsula was closed after it was blocked by a landslip on Friday.

In the days following, work has been carried out to remove the debris and install a stone retaining wall to prevent further incidents.

During the closure, drivers faced a 40-mile detour round the other side of the peninsula, with emergency vehicles and school traffic being allowed restricted access.

Highland Council has now confirmed the A855 has reopened as of Wednesday afternoon after it was cleared and repaired.

A statement from the council said: “The A855 at Idrigill Bends is now open to all traffic following the completion of remedial, stabilisation and drainage works.

“Thank you to road users and to the local community for their co-operation through the closure period following last Friday’s landslide.”
