Services disrupted after 'person hit by train' between Aviemore and Inverness

Services have been disrupted after a person died after being struck by a train in the Highlands.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police, confirmed they had been called to the scene near Carrbridge station at around 8.30pm on Wednesday, August 12.

They said: “We were called to Carrbridge station shortly after 8.30pm yesterday following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Officers attended along with paramedics, but sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.”

LNER confirmed on social media that services had been delayed due to the incident.

The operator said: “Following an investigation into a person being hit by a train between Aviemore and Inverness, the police have released the train to continue its journey.

“We apologise to those onboard for the long delay, and thank you all for your understanding and patience.”

The early morning Thursday service from Inverness to London King’s Cross was also disrupted.

It will no longer call at Inverness, Aviemore, Kingussie, Pitlochry, Perth, Gleneagles, Stirling, Falkirk, Grahamston and Haymarket and was instead replaced by a bus service.

LNER advises passengers to join the next available LNER service to London when they arrive in Edinburgh

The website states: “We are sorry for the inconvenience to your journey today. Customers travelling from station between Inverness and Edinburgh will be provided with Rail Replacement.

“Please consult station departure boards or speak to station staff. On arrival into Edinburgh please join the next available LNER service towards your destination.”

On the ScotRail website, trains between Inverness and Wick on the Far North Line have been cancelled due to the incident.

This could be a knock-on impact with trains not available due to the cancellation of earlier services on the Highland Main Line.

ScotRail and the British Transport Police have been contacted for comment.
