Searches for two missing men and a fishing vessel off the Isle of Lewis have been temporarily paused again due to sea conditions.
A major search was launched following reports that a vessel carrying three people close to the Port of Ness had failed to make port on Tuesday night.
The body of Douglas Craigie was recovered in the area around 2.45am on Wednesday.
His two crewmates, 40-year-old Norman Murray, who is known as Tam, and Murdo Morrison, 23, remain unaccounted for. They are being treated as missing people.
Searches for the missing crewmen and vessel were hindered by adverse weather conditions on Wednesday evening. Searches resumed on Thursday morning but were suspended pending new information.
Police ScotlandPolice confirmed on Saturday that an area of interest has been identified, and specialist officers were working with partners to investigate it.
Searches in this area have now been temporarily paused due to sea conditions and anchoring challenges, which have impacted the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) deployment.
Chief inspector Ross McCartney, local area commander for the Western Isles, has said that search efforts will resume “as soon as it is safe to do so”.
The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) have put an exclusion zone in place for divers in an area between the Butt of Lewis and Port of Ness. Vessels can still operate in the area.
Chief inspector McCartney said: “We understand how distressing this must be for everyone affected by this tragic incident, and our thoughts remain with them at this time.
“The families have asked for their privacy to be respected.
“I want to assure everyone that as soon as it is safe to do so, we will resume our efforts and do all we can to get answers for those affected.”
The local community has been urged not to put themselves at risk while helping with the search.
Chief inspector McCartney added: “We know the local community are keen to help in any way they can”, he added.
“However, we urge people not to put themselves at any risk. Please do not attempt to carry out searches in areas which put you at risk of harm.
“If you believe you may have any information which could assist emergency services, then please call 101 quoting reference 3575 of October 13.
“Officers will remain in the Port of Ness area, and if you have any concerns or information, then I would urge you to speak to them.”
