A post office on the Isle of Tiree was forced to close after a large sum of cash was stolen.

The suspect is believed to have entered the premises in Scarinish around 12.35am on Sunday and again at around 12.30am on Monday.

On one occasion, he took a four-figure sum in cash.

The man is described as white, of thin build, and was wearing heavy gloves, a scarf and a face-covering. He also had a heavy jacket with a distinct patch on the back and was carrying a rucksack.

Sergeant Colin Oman said: “This is the only Post Office on the island and the theft of such a large sum of money has prevented it from re-opening this week, which will have a detrimental impact on the local community.

“We’re looking to identify the man responsible and would appeal to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area in the early hours of Sunday or Monday morning, to please get in touch.”

Those with information are asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 1593 of Monday, August 3.
