Train services in the Highlands have been cancelled causing disruption for travellers after a train struck a fallen tree.

ScotRail confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that trains between Inverness, Wick and Kyle of Lochalsh have been cancelled, delayed or revised.

The tree had fallen on the line between Dingwall and Muir of Ord.

It comes as the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for high winds on Wednesday, which is due to remain in place until 6pm.

ScotRail said Network Rail staff are expected to be in the area shortly to work to resolve the issue.

Rail replacement transport has been requested to cover the 1.35pm service from Inverness to Kyle Of Lochalsh and the 5.13pm service from Kyle Of Lochalsh to Inverness.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail head of customer operations, said: “We’re sorry to customers who experienced disruption to their journey as a result of this incident.”
