A company owned by Scotland’s richest man has bought a “much-loved” pub on Loch Ness.

Fashion tycoon Anders Holch Povlsen, the largest shareholder in Asos, was named the richest person in the country for the third year running in May.

The Danish billionaire owns Highland conservation and hospitality business Wildland, which operates visitor accommodation at nearby Aldourie Castle.

The firm announced the historic Dores Inn, a popular village pub and hospitality venue near Inverness has been sold to them with “much-needed renovation” to take place.

Wildland said it will now begin an extensive process of assessment and renovation at the site with the goal of safeguarding its long-term future for local people and visitors.

The process is expected to take between 18 and 24 months, enabling the pub to reopen in two to three years.

Tim Kirkwood, CEO of WildLand said: “The Dores Inn is a popular and much-loved pub and restaurant in one of the most prominent and picturesque Loch Ness settings, close to Inverness and frequently visited by local people and visitors for access to the beach.

“When we heard that long-term sustainability of business at the site could be enhanced through investment in the premises, it became clear that we should look at solutions that will align well with the interests of our business and the local community alike.

“We are now committing a substantial programme of investment in the fabric of the premises with a view to getting the business back up and running there as a pub and restaurant in a very special location.

“We look forward to engaging and sharing detailed plans with the village once a full review has been undertaken.”

WildLand said it has committed to working closely with local community representatives to carefully manage where possible short-term challenges to amenities like car parking, public toilets and beach access during the project’s duration.
