A rescue mission was launched after a person became “physically stuck” in a cave in the Highlands.

The Scottish Cave Rescue Organisation (SCRO) were called to Ashery Pot in Applecross to assist a caver who couldn’t get out of the hole on Saturday, July 20.

Some volunteers had to travel more than three hours to the Wester Ross peninsula, north west of Kyle of Lochalsh to assist Torridon Mountain Rescue with the mission.

Around 9pm on Saturday, the casualty was freed after being brought to the surface and was said to be unharmed.

An SCRO post on Facebook read: “We were called to assist a caver who was physically stuck in Ashery Pot, Applecross.

“Relatively local team members travelled directly to Applecross to assist (some travelling three hours) whilst team members from further afield along with the team vehicle began making their way north.

“The caver was freed and assisted to the surface unharmed at around 9pm.

“Big thank yous are in order to Torridon Mountain Rescue Team for providing assistance on the surface, and to the local community for their assistance – in particular to the Applecross Campsite and Applecross Walled Garden who stayed open late so the tired cavers and team members could have a meal.”
