An investigation has been launched following a high-value theft at a Highland castle which featured in Netflix’s smash hit The Crown.

Decorative lead from the Ackergill Tower in Caithness is believed to have been stolen between the end of March and the beginning of April.

The lead is an integral part of the Grade A listed building’s heritage status.

The building featured in series four of The Crown to depict Classiebawn Castle in Ireland, the home of Lord Mountbatten.

Those with information regarding the theft have been urged to contact police on 101 quoting reference 2266 of April 8.
