A person has been pronounced dead after being struck by a train.

Emergency services were called to the line in Dingwall at around 5.30am on Tuesday following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Paramedics pronounced the person dead at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

A report is due to be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Services between Inverness and Wick/Kyle of Lochalsh are subject to delay, cancellation or revision due to the incident.

Ticket acceptance is in place with Stagecoach from Inverness to Wick.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “We were called to an area of the line in Dingwall at around 5.30am this morning (September 4) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Officers attended, along with paramedics, but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.”
