A pensioner has died following a two-vehicle crash on Orkney.

The incident took place at around 6.40pm on the A965 at Cursiter on Saturday, October 15.

A red Land Rover Discovery collided with a black VW golf on the route between Kirkwall and Finstown.

Emergency services attended and an 82-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Land Rover, was taken to Balfour Hospital with serious injuries.

She was transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where she later died on Sunday, October 16.

The driver of the vehicle, a 79-year-old man, was taken to Balfour Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

A 26-year-old man, the driver of the Golf, was also treated at Balfour Hospital for minor injuries as a result of the incident.

The road was closed while collision investigation work was carried out, before being reopened at around 3.30pm on Sunday, October 16.

Road Policing sergeant David Miller said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who has died and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances relating to the crash.

“We are appealing to anyone who has information that could help with our enquiries to get in touch. In particular if you have dash-cam then please contact officers.”
