A pedestrian has been rushed to hospital after being hit by a HGV on the A96.

Police were called to the scene around 5.45am on Tuesday morning after the 31-year-old man was injured in the collision near Inverness.

He was taken to Raigmore Hospital and medical staff have confirmed his injuries are not considered life threatening.

The incident happened a short distance west of the junction with Barn Church Road at Balloch.

The road was closed in both directions in Culloden between Smithton and Balloch junctions until 9.40am while emergency services cleared the scene.

Sergeant Neil Macdonald of the Highland and Islands Road Policing Unit said: “We are working to establish the full circumstances of this collision and would urge anyone who has any information to get in touch.

“We would be particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the road around the time of the incident.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting reference 0409 of 14 February, 2023.”
