The passenger of a car is fighting for her life, and the driver has been seriously injured after a crash on the A9.
Emergency services were called to the collision involving a white Mercedes Sprinter van and a silver Kia Sportage half a mile south of the Ralia junction near Newtonmore around 6pm on Tuesday.
The passenger of the Kia, a 35-year-old woman, was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where she remains in a critical condition.
The driver of the Kia, a 34-year-old man, was taken by road ambulance to Raigmore Hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries.
The driver of the Mercedes, a 26-year-old man, was taken by road ambulance to Raigmore Hospital and has since been discharged.
The road was closed for around eight hours while crash investigation took place.
Sergeant Scott MacDonald said: “Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash, and I’m appealing for witnesses to come forward.
“Did you see what happened or see either vehicle before the crash? Do you have dash-cam footage of the area around the time which may have captured something of significance?
“We are also keen to speak with the driver of a BMW car, who we believe has witnessed the collision.
“If you have any information which may help our investigation, please contact 101 quoting reference 2442 of December 2.”
