Scottish cyclist Fin Graham’s achievements are still sinking in after the 24-year-old reached the pinnacle of Paralympic success.
He’s returned from the 2024 games in Paris to his home in Strathpeffer with not one, but two medals – a silver for the 3000m individual pursuit, and gold for the men’s road race.
He says he knew the moment he was gearing up to take the gold.
He told STV News: “Once I actually started, I didn’t actually feel too bad, it was feeling better and better throughout the race so by the time the sprint came at the end, the minute the sprint started, I knew that I had got it.
“Being able to raise my hands over the line was a special experience.”
His parents Dee and Drew Graham say his victory was a nail biting moment.
Drew said: “He seemed to look like he had things under control and it just seemed like the race of his life, because it just seemed so responsive to attacks and to have his own attack when he needed it and just holding it for when it mattered. It was great to watch.”
Dee added: “But it is always so nerve wracking and we actually have grown to hate races!”
Drew said: “It begins to be like ‘do we have to go through this again?’ But it’s worth it for the outcome when it’s like this, it’s brilliant, it’s so good.”
Fin says he hopes his success can inspire others but there’s no time to rest, as he faces the World Championships in Switzerland starting in a week.
