Number of deaths at two more care homes linked to pandemic

A number of residents have died from suspected coronavirus at two more care homes in Scotland.

The Care Inspectorate said it was aware of the deaths at Wastview Care Centre in Shetland and at Glenfairn House Care Home in Ayr.

The watchdog – which oversees the care sector in Scotland –  said its thoughts were with the “loved ones of those affected as well as the staff and wider community” of the homes.

Wastview provides residential care for people aged 16 years and over, while Glenfairn House Care Home offers dementia, mental health, nursing, palliative, residential and respite care.

A Care Inspectorate spokesperson said the watchdog was in contact with both care services and their respective local health and social care partnerships.

The spokesperson added: “All of Scotland’s social care sector is working tirelessly under very difficult circumstances to care for people during the pandemic and the Care Inspectorate is doing all it can to support them.”
