A community in Mull has rallied around a local seafood bar by raising nearly £8,000 after a blaze destroyed the building.
Emergency services were called to The Creel Seafood Bar in Fionnphort, which was closed for the season, at around 7.40am on Wednesday after a fire broke out.
A GoFundMe campaign has raised around £7,860 for owner Siobhan Cameron, who “poured her heart” into the restaurant – which is not covered by insurance.
Alison Mailey set up the fundraiser so her friend Siobhan can continue to support her daughter, and hopefully rebuild the establishment.
She wrote: “I wanted to share this GoFundMe campaign organized by Alison Mailey to support Siobhan Cameron in rebuilding The Creel Seafood Bar in Fionnphort, which was tragically destroyed by a fire. The blaze devastated the entire building, and insurance will not cover the damage.
“Siobhan, a single mum, poured her heart into The Creel, providing employment to locals and supporting her family. The funds raised will help her rebuild this beloved establishment, ensuring she can continue to support her staff and provide for her daughter.
“So far, £6,215 has been raised, far surpassing the initial £1,000 target.”
Following the blaze, Siobhan said a rally of the local community has made a “heartbreaking day a little easier”.
She wrote on the restaurant’s Facebook page: “Absolutely devastated and heartbroken to be writing this.
“But wanted to let people know who don’t already that the creel had an awful fire this morning. The building has gone completely.
“I want to say a massive thank you to the amazing fire and rescue team for arriving so quickly and doing everything they could to try and save it and to everyone’s lovely messages and support. It’s made the most heartbreaking day that little bit easier and appreciate it so much.
“I will do everything I can to rebuild the creel and open for next season.”
