A mum who died after being allegedly stabbed at a house in Inverness alongside her husband has been named.

Police were called to reports of a 51-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man being injured at a property on Craigton Avenue around 7.30pm on Sunday.

They were taken to Raigmore Hospital with serious injuries.

The woman, since named as Miriam MacDonald, was pronounced dead in hospital later that day. Tuesday would have been her 52nd birthday.

The man remains in hospital and is understood to be in intensive care.

A 30-year-old man has been charged in connection with her murder.

Thomas Fraser, from Inverness, made no plea at Inverness Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

He was committed for further examination and remanded in custody by Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald.
