A man who died following an “incident” in the Highlands has been named by police after a teenager was charged in connection with the death.

Ben Campbell was pronounced dead after emergency services were called to the scene on Grange Road in Fort William at around 9.55pm on Thursday.

The 25-year-old has been described as a “much loved brother, son and friend.”

In a statement released through Police Scotland his family said: “Ben was a much-loved brother, son and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.”

Detective Inspector Calum Reid said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this difficult time and our officers will continue to support them as the investigation continues.

“I’m aware this incident will be of concern to the local community but I would like to reassure the public that additional patrols are in the area as part of the ongoing investigation and there is no wider threat to the community.”

On Friday, a police spokesperson confirmed that a 19-year-old man had been arrested and charged in connection with the death.

He is due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court on Monday.
