A man who died in an incident at a windfarm construction site in Shetland has been named by police.

Liam Macdonald, 23, suffered injuries at the SSE Renewables-operated site at Upper Kergord, near Lerwick, at around 10.15am on Sunday.

Emergency services were called, however Mr Macdonald – a contractor for BAM Nuttall – was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Health and Safety Executive and police have begun an investigation into the incident.

Shetland area commander chief inspector Stuart Clemenson said: “The Health and Safety Executive have been made aware and his family are being supported.

“Enquires will continue to establish the full circumstances of what happened.”
