A man has been taken to hospital following a collision on an Orkney island.

Emergency services were called to the B9070 on the Isle of Sanday after reports of a crash at 12.40pm on Friday.

A male driver was taken to hospital for treatment and the road was closed in both directions.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing and drivers are urged to avoid the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The B9070 at Backaskaill Road on the Isle of Sanday is closed in both directions due to a crash reported around 12.40pm on Friday, December 5, 2025.

“Emergency services attended and one male driver was taken to hospital for treatment.

“Enquiries are ongoing and drivers are asked to avoid the area.”
