A 78-year-old has been seriously injured and a man arrested after a two-car crash in the Highlands.

Emergency services were called around 5.10pm on Thursday to a crash involving a silver Mercedes GLB200 and a white Dacia Duster on the A890, around half a mile north of the junction with the A87 at Auchtertyre.

A 78-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

Two women, aged 27 and 74, and a 31-year-old man were also taken to hospital for assessment.

The 31-year-old was arrested in connection with the crash, and enquiries are ongoing.

The road was closed to allow for an investigation to take place and reopened around 1am on Friday.

Sergeant Doug Scott said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash and has any information to get in touch with officers.

“I’d also ask that anyone in the area who has dash-cam footage review this to see if it has captured anything that could assist with our investigation.”
