A man has been airlifted to hospital after a “medical incident” onboard a fishing boat around 60 miles off the coast of the Isle of Lewis.
A HM Coastguard helicopter was scrambled from Stornoway at around 10.30pm on Thursday, June 6 after reports of the incident onboard a boat that was around 60 nautical miles north of the Butt of Lewis.
A first attempt to evacuate the man had to be aborted due to weather conditions before the casualty was rescued.
He was airlifted to the Western Isles Hospital as ambulance crews responded.
A Coastguard spokesperson said: “Due to weather the first evacuation attempt had to be aborted, but a second attempt was successful and the casualty was rescued and transferred into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.”
The Scottish Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
