Man in court after car driven at police officer in ‘danger to life’

A man has appeared in court faced with two charges of assault to danger of life after a car was driven at a police officer in Oban.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, two Police Scotland officers were carrying out routine patrols in an estate near Glengallan Road.

At around 1am, the force said, a Volkswagen Golf car was deliberately driven at one of them.

The officer did not require any medical treatment and a 24-year-old man was arrested and charged in relation with the incident.

Fahad Moughal, who lives in Argyll, made no plea when he appeared at Oban Sheriff Court on Thursday, January 13.

He was committed for further examination and released on bail.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1am on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 two officers were carrying out routine patrols on Fladda Road, Oban when a Volkswagen Golf car was deliberately driven at one of them.

“The officer did not require any medical treatment. 

“A [24-year-old] has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident and is due to appear at Oban Sheriff Court on Thursday, January 13, 2022.”
