A 52-year-old man has appeared in court accused of murdering a musician in Inverness.

Emergency services were called to a property on Strathspey Place at around 8.30am on Thursday, December 4.

Iain MacFarlane was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 32-year-old, originally from Ullapool, played regularly at the Bike Shed in Inverness’s Merkinch and the Discovery Centre in the Eastgate Shopping precinct.

Waldemar Jaronski, 52, was arrested and appeared before Sheriff Ian Cruickshank on Monday.

Jaronski, who was represented by Inverness solicitor Marc Dickson, made no plea, was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.

He will appear again at Inverness Sheriff Court within the next eight days.

Jaronski is accused of assaulting Mr Macfarlane by brandishing a knife at him, striking him on the hand with it, and striking him on the head with a bottle, causing it to break.

He is also accused of wrapping an electrical cord and placing a strap around Mr Macfarlane’s neck and tightening them, and forcing an item of clothing into his mouth and restricting his breathing.
