A man has died following a crash between two motorcycles in the Highlands on Wednesday morning.

Emergency services were called shortly after 11am on May 22 to the collision which involved a black BMW GS1250 and a black Honda VFR on the A837 near Loch Assynt.

The rider of the BMW GS1250, a 61-year-old man, died at the scene while a 60-year-old man, the rider of the Honda VFR, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment to serious injuries.

The road was closed to allow for collision investigation work to take place. 

Road policing officers are now appealing for information to establish the full circumstances of the crash.

Sergeant Calum MacAulay said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has died, as well as all those involved in this incident.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are keen to speak to anyone with information that can assist.“
