A sex offender who raped two women during more than a decade of crime and subjected one of them to a life-endangering throttling attack has been jailed.

Jonathan Anderson, 46, preyed on his victims at locations in the Highlands as he repeatedly abused them.

Anderson, formerly of Fortrose, on the Black Isle, had denied a series of charges during a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh but was convicted of six offences – including two of rape, one of sexual assault and one of assault to danger of life.

His offending began in December 2010 and continued until July 2021.

The first offender was on bail since an appearance at Inverness Sheriff Court in March 2023 but was remanded in custody following his conviction for the offences.

The trial judge, Lord Renucci, said that as Anderson had not previously served a jail term, he was required to call for a background report ahead of sentencing.

He adjourned the case for the preparation of a report and risk assessment and put Anderson on the sex offenders’ register.

As Anderson was led off to the cells following the verdict he called out “totally criminal”.

Anderson is due to be sentenced at the High Court in Stirling on August 6.
