Man arrested after spate of ‘deliberate’ bin fire spreads to property in InvernessiStock

A man has been arrested after a spate of “deliberate” bin fires spread to a property in Inverness.

Emergency services were alerted to the fires that were set between 1am and 1.25am on Tuesday.

Bushes were set on fire on Brock Road, a bin was set on fire on Atholl Place, which spread to a property, and a bin and bushes on Elmwood Avenue.

The fires were put out by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, and no one was injured.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing.

The force is urging anyone with information to come forward.

Inspector Carol-Anne Jackson said: “Fortunately no one was injured but this was extremely reckless behaviour and more damage could have been caused both to people and property were it not for the prompt actions of the fire service.

“An investigation is continuing to trace those responsible and I would ask anyone with information who has not already spoken to officers to get in touch.

“Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0202 of Tuesday, February 18, 2025, or make a call anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
