Seven lorries become jack-knifed on A9 in freezing conditions

While attending the scene of the first lorry, police became aware of six others which had become jack-knifed.

A major road has been closed after seven lorries jack-knifed overnight amid freezing conditions in the Highlands.

At around 12.15am on Thursday, January 12, police were made aware of a lorry having jack-knifed on the A9 southbound near Dalnaspidal.

A further five lorries jack-knifed in the area and the road was closed in both directions between House of Bruar and Dalwhinnie.

At around 2am, officers who were at the scene were then made aware of a further lorry having jack-knifed.

The A9 northbound reopened after almost six hours at 5.55am on Thursday morning while the southbound road remained closed.

The public were asked to avoid the area and seek an alternative route.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were made aware of a lorry having jack-knifed on the A9 southbound near Dalnaspidal around 12.15am on Thursday, 12 January, 2023.

“Reports were received of a further five lorries having jack-knifed in the area and the road was closed between House of Bruar and Dalwhinnie.

“Around 2am, officers at the scene were made aware of a further lorry having jack-knifed at the scene.

“The A9 northbound was reopened around 5.55am. The road remains closed southbound.”
