A Highland charity which provides respite holidays for families whose children have been affected by cancer is fundraising to save its service.

Logan’s Fund needs £35,000 to replace its caravan at Lossiemouth Beach as its licence comes to an end later this year.

Gillian Robertson’s eight-year-old daughter Macy has finished her treatment and will continue to be monitored.  It’s the family’s third visit to the caravan since Macy was diagnosed.

Gillian, who lives in Tranent, said: “We love the caravan. It would be such a shame for all families that use it if it wasn’t here.

“Families can come during or after treatment. Bereaved families can also come here and can spend time here thinking about the children they have lost. There’s no time limit for how long you can use it for.”

The charity arranges a variety of activities for families including boat tours, pottery painting and trips to the Highland Wildlife Park.

Gillian added: “They go above and beyond for us. It’s a great place to come and get away from it all. It means everything to us.”

Macy added. “There’s a lot of stuff here. I love the beach.”

Logan’s Fund was founded following the death of three-year-old Logan Main, who passed away in 2009.

The caravan has been in place at Lossiemouth for the past ten years.

A new caravan would be licensed for the next two decades.

Logan’s Fund chair Cameron Mackintosh said: “It’s become a really special place over the last ten years, and that’s something we don’t want to lose.

“Families find normality here during a difficult time in their lives. They find a little bit of healing.

“In the guestbooks, a lot of families say they’ve made memories for a lifetime here, and it’s something they’ll never forget.”

Cameron says they’ve found the amount of support for their campaign “heartwarming.”

“A lot of charities are finding it quite tough these days,” he added. “£35,000 is a lot of money in this climate, but we hope to make it.”
