Jackknifed HGV closes A9 in both directions amid weather warning

The A9 at Dunbeath has been closed down after an HGV jackknifed at around 5am on Wednesday.

A jackknifed HGV has blocked the A9 in both directions in the Highlands amid a yellow weather warning.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice for parts of the north east and Highlands, which was in place from 6pm on Tuesday until 9pm on Thursday.

Police Scotland issued an update on Wednesday morning confirming that the A9 at Dunbeath has been closed down after an HGV jackknifed.

Drivers have been asked to avoid the area at this time and Traffic Scotland warned of longer journey times.

A police spokesperson said: “The A9 is closed in both directions at Dunbeath due to an HGV jackknifed, that was reported around 5am on Wednesday, 19 November, 2025.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area.”
