Police are appealing for witnesses after a historic motor yacht sank following a break-in, causing a fuel spill in a loch in the Highlands.

Officers say a motor yacht built in the 1930s, called MY Anneke, was broken into and sank sometime between Sunday, May 3, and Tuesday, May 5, on Loch Dochfour.

The sinking also caused a fuel spill, which the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) are said to be dealing with.

The yacht’s bell is polished brass, with ANNEKE embossed on the side.

Constable Ben Staal said the bell was original to the vessel and is “irreplaceable”.

A statement read: “The sinking has also caused quite a fuel spill, which colleagues at SEPA are dealing with.

“There will also be a considerably costly and difficult operation required to safely salvage the vessel for repairs.

“I would appeal to anybody with any information to come forward, quoting incident 2879 of Thursday, May 7, 2026.”
