A road has been closed for more than four hours after an early morning collision on Friday.

The incident took place on the A9 between the Raigmore Interchange and the B9006 Junction in Inverness at around 2.30am.

Initially both carriageways were shut due to the crash, however, just before 5am the northbound road reopened.

As of 6.19am the southbound carriageway remains closed. Drivers have been urged to avoid the area.

It is currently not known whether anyone was injured during the crash.

The latest update from Traffic Scotland read: “The #A9 Southbound is currently CLOSED just South of Raigmore due to an earlier collision.

“There’s NO access to the #A9 Southbound from the Raigmore interchange.

“There’s no major delays so far.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
