Police are hunting a dog walker after a pensioner was attacked in a wooded area in Inverness.
The 72-year-old man was on the footpath which leads from the junction of Carnarc Crescent and Kessock Avenue to the nearby railway crossing within the Merkinch Nature Reserve between 4pm and 5pm when he was assaulted.
The suspect is described as male, white, around 35-40 years old, around 5ft 8 in height and of stocky build, with short brown hair.
He was wearing dark clothing, spoke with a local accent and was with a medium-sized dog.
The victim made his way to Raigmore Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
Detective constable Gary Hines, said: “The injured man managed to make his way to Raigmore Hospital for treatment. He has since been discharged.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or observed a man matching this description in the area at the time, to contact us.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident 2790 of July 2, 2025, or alternatively Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where you can remain anonymous.”
