Hundreds of Highland homes without electricity after major power cut

Hundreds of homes in the Highlands have been left without power after a fault on the main network.

At around 12pm on Sunday, properties in parts of Easter Ross were hit by a power outage affecting 218 homes.

The area of Evanton appears to be most affected by the disruption, which has been caused by a fault on an underground network

Supply is expected to be restored at around 5pm.

A spokesperson for SSEN said: “The power cut is affecting 218 properties. We are working with our engineers to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

“We’ll be sending out engineers to the area as soon as possible.

“The power cut has been caused by a fault on our underground network. Issues like this do happen, and our engineers are very experienced at fixing them.

“Often, power can be restored quickly with a simple reset, or by replacing a fuse at a nearby substation.

“If the problem is more complicated, repairs may take a little longer but our teams will keep working until everything is safely back up and running.”
