A 5,000-acre forest in Argyll has gone on sale for offers over £29m.

Glen Shira is a Sitka spruce plantation established in the 1970s near the northern shore of Loch Fyne.

The sale covers 4,064 acres of stunning, sloping land and an existing lease for a further 801 acres.

It’s thought to be the largest commercial forest to come to market in the UK in 2023.

Brannie Burn, Kilblaan Burn and other minor burns run down to the River Shira, which goes under Garron Bridge and into the loch.

The site also has two major existing stone quarries.

The forest has undergone systematic felling and restocking, which began in 2010, forestry agents Goldcrest said.

The listing says the land has the potential to produce good quality timber with yields in excess of 700 tonnes per hectare.
