A historic castle on the Isle of Rum has been put up for sale for £750,000 after islanders agreed that it should be brought back into use.
Kinloch Castle, owned by Scottish Government agency NatureScot, has been on the search for a new owner for several years.
The dilapidated A-listed building was previously valued at £1m in 2022, but the sale was put on hold after locals raised concerns.
NatureScot worked with Savills to put it back on the market after research found that most islanders agreed the building should be sold to be redeveloped and brought back into use.
Interested buyers will have to explain how they plan to use the castle and grounds to support the island as part of their offer.

The current market valuation for the castle, grounds and contents is £750,000.
The study by the Scottish Government’s Rural and Environment Science and Analytical Services (RESAS) found that many islanders feel that the sale and redevelopment of the castle would have a positive impact on the Rum community.

Chris Donald, NatureScot’s head of Operations for Central Highland, said: “We are asking prospective buyers to set out, alongside their offer, how they plan to use the castle and grounds and how they will support the nature, sustainability, culture and economy of the Isle of Rum.
“For the right buyer, this offers a rare opportunity to be part of Scotland’s heritage by restoring an iconic building and grounds which are of historical and cultural importance to the Isle of Rum and beyond.

“We look forward to hearing from prospective buyers and will of course be keeping island residents directly informed of progress.”
