A rescue mission was launched in North Uist after two hillwalkers failed to return from their excursion during difficult weather conditions.
Coastguard teams from Benbecula and Lochboisdale were called in by the coastguard after the pair were reported to be overdue on Eabhal Isle – the tallest hill on the island – on Friday.
Uist Coastguard Rescue Team initially began the search on foot but were unable to locate the walkers in their last known location.
They extended their search to the summit and other faces of Eabha in the face of “driving” rain, low cloud and strong winds.
Additional support was called in amid deteriorating conditions and failing light, with a coastguard helicopter and search teams brought in from Stornoway.
The walkers were eventually found around walked off the hill by 11pm in a “cold, wet and tired” state and passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service. They were then taken to Uist and Barra Hospital.
HM Coastguard shared the mission on social media and shared their thanks for the teams involved.
