A frozen dessert firm is giving the much-loved Christmas dinner a twist this year – by turning all the ingredients into a multi-layered gelato ice cream.
It has taken Highland Gelato makers Mieles five years to perfect the fun Italian twist on the traditional turkey meal.
Each layer is different, with roast turkey, honey-glazed parsnips and Brussels sprouts all in the mix – topped off by a final layer of pigs in blankets.
Co-owner David Miele told STV News: “It is pretty complex, my brother Michael has created every single flavour, you can really taste all the ingredients.
“We haven’t just put flavourings into vanilla. It is unbelievable how it all works together – a little bit mad, yet but we are pretty chuffed with how it’s come out, and there’s already been a big reaction from customers.”
Mieles chef and co-owner Michael Miele said “I have been wanting to do this for a long time. When you do something savoury, you try to remove the sugar and it’s a lot more difficult.
“It has been a lot more technical, so with roasting turkeys and trying to get all that flavour into the gelato, it’s been fun.”
The not-so-sweet treat is already creating a stir online with customers divided on the issue.
Comments include; “It’s a ‘no’ from me”, “I don’t know what to think about this” and “Dinner sorted tonight”.
The Full Christmas Dinner Gelato is on sale at Mieles Gelaterias in Inverness and Aviemore.
With no concerns about whether the turkey’s been defrosted properly, and less washing up, it’s expected to make an appearance on many of their customers tables this Christmas Day.
