A family have issued a desperate plea for help to raise £40,000 for potentially life-extending brain surgery for a Scottish dad-of-three.

Michael Jepson, a father of three from Cannich in the Highlands, is battling stage four glioblastoma after being diagnosed in April last year.

The dad underwent intensive eight-hour brain surgery at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary last year, where surgeons successfully removed a large cyst and tumour from his frontal lobe.

The 55-year-old was able to return home to his family, but biopsy results showed he had an aggressive form of brain cancer.

A post on a fundraiser on behalf of the family, which has already raised more than £28,000, said he has completed 60 rounds of combined radio and chemotherapy and a further six months of chemotherapy.

As a result, Mr Jepson had a severe seizure in November and spent five days in an intensive care unit on life support.

A recent scan showed regrowth of his tumour, with the NHS unable to operate.

His loved ones say the option of private surgery with a neurosurgeon in London could prolong his life “significantly”, but will cost more than £40,000.

A post on the GoFundMe read: “Michael is a warrior and a true hero. He has remained unbelievably strong and positive, facing this unimaginable diagnosis with courage and grace.

“A diagnosis like this is incredibly difficult to process. But after extensive research, we are determined to challenge it, and defy it.

“The surgeon is confident she can remove all that can be seen on Michael’s recent scan, which could prolong his life significantly. This is obviously something we simply cannot turn down.

“This is our main goal to achieve but to be able is to raise as much as possible to help cover Mick’s life-extending surgery and treatments, travel costs, and any other essential needs and expenses would be incredible.

“We’re reaching out to everyone, family, friends, neighbours, and even those who don’t know the Jepsons to share this story far and wide.

“Help us give this incredible family the chance they deserve and fight for Mick’s life.”
