More than 30 firefighters are tackling a huge wildfire near an army barracks in the Highlands.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Fort George, near Ardersier, at around 1.35pm on Wednesday.

The fire is burning through gorse by the coast on the Moray Firth with four appliances mobilised along with an all-terrain unit. The blaze covers an area hundreds of meters wide.

There was an “extreme risk” of wildfires warning across the country in place last week.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said there were around 34 personnel in attendance dealing with the blaze with four pumps and two community response vehicles being used to control the spread.
