An investigation has been launched after a person was found dead near a trainline in the Highlands.

Emergency services were called to the line near Inverness Train Station at around 7.20am on Wednesday after receiving reports of a casualty on the tracks.

The line between Dingwall and Inverness was closed during the response, which caused major disruption to ScotRail services.

An investigation into the circumstances behind the incident remains ongoing.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the line near Inverness railway station at around 7.20am on February 21 following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The circumstances leading up to the incident are currently under investigation.”
