A pensioner has died in hospital days after a car crash in Shetland.

On Thursday, police confirmed Kathleen McLachlan died from injuries sustained in the incident on Pier Road in Walls.

Ms McLachlan, 72, from Virkie, was initially taken to the Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick and subsequently to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where she later died.

The crash took place around 1.10pm on March 17 and involved a black Citroen Berlingo and a parked orange Suzuki Swift.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Police Sergeant Callum MacAulay of the Road Policing Unit at Dingwall said: “Our thoughts remain with Kathleen’s family and friends at this very difficult time for them.

“Enquiries into the crash are ongoing and anyone with information that may assist us should contact 101 with reference number 1585 of March 17.”
